People are afraid of the word Hospice. Almost every week we have someone who asks us to turn around our “Hospice Badge” when we meet patients and families. Even though we are all terminal, death and decline are difficult to face.
This week has been full of challenges. While there can be moments when we feel overwhelmed, a better response is to know we can lean on God and for all things there is a plan for good.
Hospice Home Care has introduced a new project to delight patients and guests at the Comfort Care Center in Little Rock.
The Tribute of Life Foundation is honored to accept a $30,000 matching grant award from the Windgate Foundation of Little Rock, Arkansas to support the ‘No One is Alone’ initiative. With this generous gift, a number of hospice patients, who otherwise would pass away unsupported and alone, will receive end of life medical, emotional and spiritual support from Hospice Home Care’s Comfort Care Center located in Little Rock.
Hospice employees share their heart and soul everyday with patients and their families at the Comfort Care Center in Little Rock. Recently, staff gave even more to the Tribute of Life (TOL) Foundation for patients who otherwise would pass away unsupported and alone.
When Heaven Evans needed extra help to cope with her life-limiting illness, she and her family decided to allow Spring Valley Hospice to provide support. They may not have imagined then that this group of caring professionals would become like a second family and go so far to create lasting and cherished memories together with them.
Earlier this year the Comfort Care Center was able to serve a patient under our No One Is Alone initiative who we’ll call Carl.
Carl was a horse walker. That is, he and his buddies would travel from racetrack to racetrack and walk horses for a small amount of pay and the ability to sleep in an empty stall. Free time was typically spent smoking and drinking and once the season ended at one track, they were off to the next.
Tribute of Life Foundation is preparing a special edition cookbook featuring recipes from Hospice Home Care and Spring Valley Hospice staff, family, friends, and our partners in the community.
